Vale Bruce McGill CSsR

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Fr Bruce McGill CSsR, who departed from this life on the evening of Saturday April 27th at the Auckland City Hospital, surrounded by his dear friends .

Throughout the day, Bruce remained conscious, his spirit resilient until a sudden deterioration at 5:30 pm. Merely four hours later, he took his final breath, leaving behind a legacy of faith, friendship, and service.

Bruce’s life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to his faith and to the communities he served in New Zealand and Australia for over six decades. His dedication was especially cherished by parishioners in Glendowie, Bishop Pat Dunn, clergy, and religious across the dioceses of New Zealand.

Born on March 3rd, 1933, Bruce professed his vows on February 25th, 1960, and was ordained on December 10th, 1966. His life was marked by a profound love for God and a deep sense of duty to his fellow human beings.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Bruce’s confreres, friends, and all who were touched by his kindness and generosity. We are grateful to Fr Doan Nguyen, Br Frank Blewman, and the entire community for their tender care of Bruce, especially in his final years.

Details regarding Bruce’s funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course. In this time of grief, may we find strength in our shared memories of Bruce, our cheerful and cheeky confrere, and the knowledge that he now dwells in the presence of God, experiencing the fullness of life everlasting. May his joyful spirit continue to inspire us all.
