Today we mourn the loss of a true champion of the marginalised, as Fr. Frank Smith’s journey on this earth comes to a close. A beacon of hope, he dedicated his life to uplifting those in need, tirelessly advocating for those pushed to the periphery. Fr Frank’s legacy is etched in his unwavering commitment to social justice and equality.
He was professed as a member of the Redemptorist Congregation on 11 February 1963 and recently celebrated his 60th anniversary of profession. He made his final profession on August second 1966, and was ordained as a priest on March 16th 1969.
A compassionate soul, Fr. Frank’s ministry transcended borders, reaching the far corners of society. His profound understanding of the struggles faced by the marginalised led him to found numerous initiatives that provided shelter, education, and support to those in need. With his soothing words and open heart, he created safe havens for those society had turned its back on.
Fr. Frank’s impact radiates through the lives he touched and the communities he transformed. His departure leaves a void, but his spirit will continue to inspire generations to champion the cause of the marginalised. As we bid farewell, let us carry forward his torch of compassion, ensuring his legacy remains a guiding light for a more just and inclusive world.
Our continued prayers are with Frank, his family, and friends at this time.

His friendly smile and boisterous laughter, his generousity with his time and talents were my lasting and fond memories of Fr Frank from our Wendouree, Ballarat days. These must’ve Been what he also brought to his Ministry.
I had the honour of being with and listening to Fr. Frank on a three day Divine Will Retreat back in 2018.
Those three days were treasured memories I am blessed to have locked in my heart forever 🕊
I still have a photo somewhere of a beautiful Cross in sky after Holy Mass.
God bless you Fr. Frank and may perpetual Light shine upon you 🙏🏻
“Your boisterous laugh” I can still remember that from Galong in 1959 was it?
And you died on my birthday!!!
