Marco was in the peak of his years, young healthy and successful. Then a lump appeared in his shoulder. The doctor warned him that it looked like something serious and sent him off for tests. Marco waited five elongated days for results. During that time, anxious and worried, he found the waiting hard. He realised he was used to having most things in his life ‘now’. This was different, he needed to wait; he had to wait on life.
Advent is a time of waiting. Within a searching world the followers of Christ also search, and they wait for the revelation of an illusive truth which is also personal – ‘Emmanuel’, which means ‘God is with us’.
The days are coming says the Lord, when I will fulfil the promise I made to the house of Israel and Judah. In those days, in that time, I will raise up for David a shoot; he shall do what is right and just in the land.- Jeremiah 33:14-15
Gracious God, you have waited for humanity’s love through eons of creative evolution. This Advent, through life’s great gifts, especially through your own Son Jesus, the Church waits on you for the seeding of that love. Amen.

That circles ceaselessly:
Stars in the sky and sister stars –
Turn in your eyes and see!
