Bringing Good News to the World

St. Benno’s

In 1785, St Clement Hofbauer and his fellow Redemptorist, Thaddeus Huebl, arrived in Warsaw, Poland. At the old church of St. Benno they formed a community of Redemptorists and associates who worked among homeless youth and the poor.

Centuries later, you have arrived at this virtual St. Benno’s and you are most welcome. Sit down a while and ponder the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Wonder a moment about life. Bring your friends along with you. There is room for everyone.

God of wonders *

“We see Being, the Creator, as Giver: Giver of a gift, which received within our limits, makes us share in the ‘unboundariedness’ of the Giver, and so become persons who go on giving to others. We glimpse how the giver ‘sees into us’ this gift of being, and constantly does so, as long as we are” (Kevin O’Shea, C.Ss.R.)

Your grace is enough *

“Even in their bewilderment and failure to understand the world around them, Christians continue to believe in the “goodness and loving kindness of God” (Tit 3:4). Immersed like everyone else in the dramatic complexity of historical events, they remain unshakably certain that God is our Father and loves us, even when his silence remains incomprehensible.” (Pope Benedict XVI, Deus Caritas Est, No. 38, 2005)

God of justice - We must go *

“What is good has been explained to you; this is what the Lord asks of you: only this, to act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God” The Prophet Micah 6:8. “Faith is like that: if good works do not go with it, it is quite dead.” (James 2:17).

On Eagles Wings *

“As the deer longs for running streams, so my soul longs for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, the God of life; when shall I go to see the face of God” (Psalms 42-43:1-2).

The Mission *

“His state was divine, yet he did not cling to his equality with God, but emptied himself to assume the condition of a slave and become as human beings are; and being as all people are, he was humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on a cross. But God raised him high …” (Philippians 2:6-8)

Lead me, Lord *

“In every generation young Christians must ratify, with full consciousness and unconditionally, the covenant entered into by them in the Sacrament of Baptism and reinforced in the sacrament of confirmation.” (Pope Paul VI, Gaudete in Domino - On Chrsitian Joy, Chapter 6, 1975)

The Jubilee Song *

“Open the doors of your hearts in order that Christ may enter and bring you his joy”. Pope John Paul II

God's Creation - "Morning Has Broken" *

The Lord God planted a garden in Eden, which is in the East, and there he put the human he had fashioned.  From the soil, the Lord God caused to grow every kind of tree, enticing to look at and good to eat …” (Genesis 2:8-9a)

World Youth Day- 2008, Sydney, Australia *

You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and then you will be my witnesses, not only in Jerusalem but throughout Judea and Samaria, and indeed the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

Sometimes I feel like a motherless child*

“Many countries have made great progress in cutting child and maternal mortality, controlling infectious diseases and expanding education and basic health care. The policies are well known, and can be rapidly extended elsewhere if the comparatively modest resources are available. For instance the cost of vaccine to immunise against the six leading child-killing diseases in poor countries is ludicrously cheap at about AU$1.10 per person.”  Fr. Bruce Duncan, C.Ss.R.

Merciful Jesus (Pie Jesu)*

Merciful Jesus, Merciful Jesus, Merciful Jesus, Merciful Jesus,
You who take away the sins of the world
Grant them peace
Grant them everlasting peace
Lamb of god, Lamb of God, Lamb of God, Lamb of God

You who take away the sins of the world
Grant them peace
Grant them everlasting peace
Everlasting, peace everlasting

The Lord is my Shepherd (sung) *

“I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for my sheep. And there are other sheep I have that are not of this fold, and these I have to lead as well.  They too will listen to my voice, and there will be only one flock, and one shepherd”. John 10:14-16

Profound Repentance (Psalm 51) *

“Have mercy on me, O God in your goodness, in your great tenderness wipe away my faults; wash me clean of my guilt, purify mea from my sin. For I am well aware of my faults, I have my sin constantly in mind, having sinned against none other than you, having done what you regard as wrong … God, create a clean heart in me, put into me a new and constant spirit, do not banish me from your presence, do not deprive me of your holy spirit” (Psalm 51:1-4, 10-11)

The River (Appalachian folk song) *

“The angel showed me the river of life, rising from the throne of God and of the Lamb and flowing crystal clear.  Down the middle of the city street, on either bank of the river there were trees of life.” (Revelation 22:1-2a)

The Lord’s Prayer (Over the ages) *

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Amen

Our Father (Syriac)*

Sung in Syriac Aramaic, the language thought to be spoken by Jesus Christ over 2000 years ago:

Nehwey tzevyanach aykanna d`bwashmaya aph b`arha
Hawvlan lachma d`sunqanan yaomana

Blessing from the book of Numbers *

Yahweh spoke to Moses and said, say to Aaron and his sons: ‘This is how you are to bless the children of Israel. You shall say to them: May Yahweh bless you and keep you.  May Yahweh let his face shine upon you and be gracious to you.  May Yahweh uncover his face to you and bring you peace.’ This is how you are to call down my name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them” (Numbers 6:22-27).

 The Grace of Taize *

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, the first heaven and the first earth had disappeared now… I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God … Then I heard a  loud voice call from the throne, ‘Look, here God lives among human beings. He will make a home among them; they will be his people, and he will be their God, God-with-them.’.” (Revelation 21:1-3)

(The Taize community was founded in 1940 by Frere Roger (Brother Roger) who lived there till his death in 2005. Prayer, hospitality and respect for persons are at the core of the Taize experience. Each year ten of thousands of young men and women visit Taize from all over the world, every nation and creed.  For most of them it is a highpoint in their lives. On the Taize website click the language of your choice.)

God is near *

Maybe there was once a word for it. Call it grace.
I have seen it, once or twice, through a human face.”
(From ‘Grace’, a poem by Judith Wright)

The Shepherd King *

“To love is to live according to his commandments: this is the commandment which you have heard since the beginning, to live a life of love.” (2 John 6)

My Forever Friend *

“I shall not call you servants any more, because a servant does not know his master’s business; I call you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have learnt from my Father.” (John 15:15)

A Clean Heart *

“Life is not primarily, or even principally, about negativity.  It is about a tenderness stamped with an undying fidelity. This can be the foundation of a real personal health.” (Kevin O’Shea, C.Ss.R.)
